Ash Grove Academy

Belgrave Rd, Macclesfield, SK11 7TF

This is a smaller than average sized school in which almost all pupils are White British. The proportion of pupils entitled to funding through the pupil premium, including those known to be eligible for free school meals, is well above average. Pupil premium provides additional funding for children in local authority care, pupils known to be eligible for free school meals, and children from service families. A below average proportion of pupils is supported through school action. The proportion of pupils supported at school action plus or with a statement of special educational needs is well above average.

At Ash Grove Academy our mission statement is 'Aspire'. Our ethos is simply to improve outcomes for all young people, especially those from more challenging circumstances. We help and encourage our pupils to be knowledgeable, thoughtful, and to speak their minds, because we want them to have the confidence and the skills to make their way in the world. We believe that children learn best in a positive, encouraging, safe and secure atmosphere. The Aspirer Teaching Alliance was set up in 2014 after the transformation of Ash Grove from a school due for closure, into an Outstanding (Ofsted, 2013) school.

The Aspirer Teaching Alliance has grown from strength to strength and, as well as training teachers of the future and providing professional learning for teachers across Cheshire and further afield, is heavily involved in leading research and development projects, and at the end of 2016 was designated one of the first five EEF National Research Schools.

Ash Grove began using the Helicopter Stories approach in 2015 and quickly saw evidence of children’s progression in their communication and language. Children have been eager to write down their own stories to be acted out which has fostered a joy and purpose for writing.

Ash Grove Academy are a fully qualified Helicopter Stories Certified Training Centre licensed to deliver full day training and coffee mornings.
